Cheap Price Centerfire Deer Rifles

The reason centerfire rifles are listed as a house gun is for power. A centerfire rifle in deer hunting calibers will shoot through any soft body armor the Zombies may be wearing. If your home is being attacked by thugs using a car or truck as a weapon, a centerfire rifle bullet can shoot into an alloy engine block leaving the vehicle disabled.
With a 3x9 scope, bolt action rifles have an effective range past 400 yards! Stay with popular calibers, so if things go to hell-in-a-handbasket you will be able to find ammo.
What great times we live in. 15 years ago it was almost impossible to buy an accurate deer rifle so cheap. Most of these rifles can shoot one inch groups at 100 yards with quality ammunition! We set the price limit for centerfire bolt and lever action rifles at $450 to keep with the house guns theme.

  Howa 1500 HGR: $420-450 from a dealer
Howa is a gun maker for several famous premium brands that are marketed worldwide. The Howa 1500 bolt action is designed to handle harsh weather conditions. The heart of the M-1500s superior action is a one piece, bind proof bolt forged from solid steel. The fully adjustable Howa trigger is famous for consistent, crisp let off. The Howa 1500 is Drilled and tapped for scope bases and come with solid rubber butt pads and sling swivel studs. Overmolded Hogue stock. Large selection of calibers available. The Howa 1500 is overbuilt, so it does weigh a little more than other bolt rifles.

Maverick Bolt Action Rifle: $240-$270 from a dealer
Would you look at the low cost price! The Maverick bolt action is priced the same as some 22 rifles! Available in caliders: 243, 308, 270, and 30-06. Weighs 7 pounds with a free-floating button rifled 22 inch barrel. The Maverick comes with all steel machined receiver, 4 round magazine, and polymer stock. Rumor is this gun is identical to the Mossberg 100 ATR, but with a standard trigger. I am thinking about getting one in 243 for a coyote rifle.

  Marlin XL7: $310-340 from a dealer
One of the best features of the Marlin XL7 is the Pro-Fire Trigger. it is adjustable for pull weight with almost no creep or overtravel. The trigger combined with the pillar bedded synthetic stock provides excellent accuracy. The XL-7 offers so much rifle for the cheap price. Available in 25-06 Remington, 30.-06 Springfield, and 270 Winchester. Bolt action 22 inch barrel and 6.5 pounds. The XS7 model comes in short action calibers like 243, 7mm-08, and 308 Win.

Marlin 336 Lever Action: $400-450 from a dealer
One of the original 30-30 lever action rifles. Even today with so many modern assult rifles, there are still sheriff deputies that carry the 336 Marlin in their cruiser. The lever action rifle handles fast just like a pump shotgun, but you get 4 times the effective range. When it comes to 30-30 rifles, the Marlin 336 is king. Also available in the hard hitting 35 Remington. 6 round tubular magazine and 20 inch barrel.

Synthetic stock with nice rubber recoil pad. Weighs 6.6 pounds and comes in popular calibers. Make sure to get one with the LBA trigger system. Also check out the upscale Mossberg 4x4 model in long action calibers. You get an adjustable trigger, fluted barrel, nicer stock, and more finish choices for only about $50 more.

  Mossberg 464 30-30: $370-400 from a dealer
The American made Mossberg 464 Lever Action Rifle with its hardwood straight stock, blued receiver and barrel remind you of days gone by. The balance and a smooth yet robust action makes the 464 Lever Action Rifle tremendously fast handling. Also available with pistol grip walnut stock. Chambered in 30-30 with 6 round tube magazine and 6.7 pound weight. Also available in a sweet shooting 22 long rifle version.

  Remington 770: $320-350 from a dealer
This price includes a 3x9 scope already mounted. The low cost 770 is available in popular calibers plus the 7mm-08, 7mm Rem mag, and 300 Winchester Magnum. Weighs 8.5lb with scope. I have held one of these and I believe they are just as beefy as the Model 700 series bolt action rifles. The 770 is a lot better than the 710 and 715 models they replaced. The camo stock stainless version is cool. Also look for Remington 700 ADL with scope package specials in the $400 to $450 price range from some of the big sporting goods stores like Gander Mountain.

Rossi Rio Grande 30-30: $380-410 from a dealer
I bet there are more real cowboys in Brazil than the good old USA. The 464 is Rossi's real lever action cowboy gun available in 30-30 Winchester, 45 Colt, and 44 Magnum. Of course the 30-30 packs the most punch. Authentic buckhorn sights and a beautiful hardwood or camo finish make the 464 look like the classic. 6 round tubular magazine, 20 inch barrel and 7 pound weight. Also available with octagon barrel. Stainless finish is only $30 more.

Ruger American: $370-400 from a dealer
Brand new hunting rifle from Ruger. The Ruger American is not like any other ruger built in the past. The bolt has 3 lugs with a short throw, and reminds me of the Browning A-Bolt. The stock is similar to the Savage Axis, but feels stiffer. The adjustable trigger and 10/22 type magazine are cool. I have not shot one yet, but the accuracy reported is excellent. At only 6.25 pounds with a 22 inch barrel, the Ruger American would make an awesome mountain rifle. It is already a bit ugly, so you don't have to worry about it getting scratched up. Available in 243, 308, 270, and 30-06 calibers. I want one! Prices should come down when the excitement cools off.

Savage Axis: $280-310 from a dealer
Savage changed the Egde model name to the Axis. Look at the cheap price! The Savage Axis cost less than the Stevens 200! I like the strong european style reciever that is so un-Savage like. The Axis is offered in 25-06 Rem, 270 Win, and 30-06 Springfield, 223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem, and 308 Win. All models have a 22" barrel and a four round detachable box magazine. Weighs 6.5 pounds. It would be cool to get the stainless model and add a silver finished scope. You can lighten the trigger pull to about 4 pounds with a $1 spring! It has been reported that the Axis models are just as accurate as the tack driving 11/111 bolt action rifles.

Savage 11/111 Hunter XP: $380-410 from a dealer
This is a package deal of the basic Savage 11/111. You get a free-floated black synthetic stock, detachable box magazine, and Bushnell Banner 3x9-40 scope already mounted. The Hunter XP comes chambered in popular short and long action calibers. If you look at the price of just the scope and rings, you will see that rifle is cheaper than the Stevens 200 below. What a bargain! There is also a Trophy Hunter package with the AccuTrigger and Nikon 3x9-40 scope for about $75 more.
Savage Hunter XP Package
  Stevens Model 200: $310-340 from a dealer
The Steven 200 is pretty much a Savage 10/110 without the AccuTrigger, so you know it is a well tested and reliable gun. The blind magazine holds 4 rounds in standard and 3 in the magnum calibers. The barrel is free floated and the action is pillar bedded into the stock providing excellent accuracy. Available in both short and long actions from 223 Remington through 300 Winchester Magnum. Weighs 6.5 to 6.75 pounds. Note: The grey synthetic stock holds Krylon Fusion paint really well if you want to have a custom paint job. Boyds makes some awesome $95 laminated wood stocks for this rifle. You can lower the trigger pull to under 4 pounds by backing out the spring tension screw. Just like other Savage bolt rifles, the Stevens 200 is a tack driver.

  USSG Z98 Zastava: $420-450 from a dealer
Well folks, the absolute best rifle on this page is the USSG Z98. It would be a good deal at $695! For $450 it is a steal! Remington imported this rifle for a few years as the Model 798. The writers in the gun magazines were saying the 798 was a step up from the Model 700 and far superior. This is saying a lot, as the Model 700 is a very good rifle! The USSG Zastava Z98 made in Serbia is the most overbuilt Mauser 98 action. Alailable in 30-06 Springfield, 243 Win, 308 Win, 270 Win, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 375 H&H, and 458 Winchester. Synthetic stock and 7.3lbs.
